Shine EP - Katina Kangaris - F-IRECD11 (2005)

Shine is the first EP released by London based singer/songwriter Katina Kangaris. Five menacingly beautiful acoustic pop songs, lyrically polished, brooding with experience and wisdom, these are songs driven above all by her unique voice; subtle and insinuating one moment, soaring and expansive the next. From the tender minimalism of Not Especially, to the P J Harvey-esque grunginess of Miracle and the epic malice of Shine, this is an assured and mature debut.
"I wanted to find the link between all the music I love - I'd been singing lots of Greek 1920s rembetika and writing simple Joni type songs at the piano but I've always had a bunch of songs by people like Villa Lobos and Poulenc on the go too. I think it's possible to cross musical boundaries mainly because there aren't any if you approach it all your way."
