Moments Arriving - Olivia's Owls - F-IRECD73 (2015)

Founded in 2011 and led by composer and bassist Hedi Pinkerfeld, Olivia's Owls have been steadily honing their own unique brand of instrumental music. Described on BBC Radio 3 by Jez Nelson (Jazz on 3) as "standing out of the pack", their live work has included performances on the London scene as well as international dates. The group's delicate, melodic material draws as much from Faure and Scriabin as the jazz tradition, striking a compelling balance between intricate compositions and improvisational freedom. The music features the outstanding talents of Alex Coppard (Brass Notes, Bombay Bicycle Club) Charlie Laffer (Daley, Maverick Sabre) and Josh Stadlen (Femme, Rudimental). Captured live over two wintery days, this is the debut album from Olivia's Owls. Led by composer/bassist Hedi Pinkerfeld, the music is driven by a love for harmony dating back over the last 150 years. Ideas effected by Faure, Scriabin and others are expanded upon and brought to you with a powerful, modern jazz sensibility and the energy of an intemperate indie band. This is a group of musicians, working collaboratively in exploring and expanding their already-distinctive musical concept. With this recording, they provide a compelling and emotive account of Moments Arriving.
